What is life after death?

This is the question we need to ask ourselves as paranormal researchers. For there to be something tangible to study we need to try to answer what happens to us when we die. However in order to answer questions such as where does our life force go when the body dies? We need to look at first what is our perception of the soul when we are living. Now surely that has to be an easier starting point than sitting in a cold dark mansion calling out for the disembodied energy we call a ghost!

Are we just organic matter that has an ability to perceive intelligence? Now we all know that the human body is made up of millions of cells with a variety of systems to take care of fuel waste health energy rest mood and information ie sight sound smell and touch each of us with an individual code or DNA sequence, but what is our mind ie the part of us responsible for thinking?

I am writing this blog from scratch with an open mind tonight, the words coming from me thinking them and then telling my digits to type them onto the page but is this just a chemical reaction within my cellular make up perceiving intelligence and understanding or is it me Chris Howley an entity within this physical body telling the chemicals what to do? I think that I have a free mind and therefore also believe that this mind is currently contained within the brain programming the different parts simultaneously to work the body with a magnitude of multiple complex operations per second.

Here is is the catch what if my body were to die where would Chris Howley the entity go, knowing that the brain is organic and would not survive death. Also if Chris Howley the entity is dependant on energy given the fact that up until the point of death the energy was gained from fuel and rest in a normal waking and sleeping cycle, where does the energy now come from? Another question here is does Chris Howley 'the entity' need energy to survive and is the energy only required to fuel the physical body. If so then that would make the soul an energy in its own right.

We already know that life is complex and the fact that we are who we are is down to a chance encounter between egg and a single sperm of millions but does that just make up the physical and are we already ordained as a soul for the juvenile body which has to contain our energy and grow as we age. Why then if this is so, are memories of past lives suppressed and how do new souls get made?

According to Science everything started from the Big Bang. So us humans, millions of years later have evolved from the very same starting point of energy. This proves that energy cannot be destroyed that it is an ever expanding sequence of quantum mechanics that our minds cannot yet comprehend so why is it improbable that after death the soul is destined for another great adventure in our ever expanding universe.

It is, with this subject, a never ending tirade of questions, what ifs and buts. However I do know that we don’t understand everything in the world and that even science has got it wrong at certain points and my own conclusion is still very open minded to the fact that we are all capable of becoming a spiritual entity it just depends how much free choice we get when our time comes.

UPDATE Thanks to Pete Mould for finding this article.

While scientists are still in heated debates about what exactly consciousness is, the University of Arizona’s Stuart Hameroff and British physicist Sir Roger Penrose conclude that it is information stored at a quantum level. Penrose agrees –he and his team have found evidence that "protein-based microtubules—a structural component of human cells—carry quantum information— information stored at a sub-atomic level.”

Penrose argues that if a person temporarily dies, this quantum information is released from the microtubules and into the universe. However, if they are resuscitated the quantum information is channeled back into the microtubules and that is what sparks a near death experience. “If they’re not revived, and the patient dies, it’s possible that this quantum information can exist outside the body, perhaps indefinitely, as a soul.

Researchers from the renowned Max Planck Institute for Physics in Munich are in agreement with Penrose that the physical universe that we live in is only our perception and once our physical bodies die, there is an infinite beyond. Some believe that consciousness travels to parallel universes after death. “The beyond is an infinite reality that is much bigger… which this world is rooted in. In this way, our lives in this plane of existence are encompassed, surrounded, by the afterworld already… The body dies but the spiritual quantum field continues. In this way, I am immortal.”

In “Beyond Biocentrism: Rethinking Time, Space, Consciousness, and the Illusion of Death," Robert Lanza asks does the soul exist? The new scientific theory he propounds says we’re immortal and exist outside of time. Biocentrism postulates that space and time are not the hard objects we think. Death does not exist in a timeless, spaceless world. His new scientific theory suggests that death is not the terminal event we think.

“There are an infinite number of universes, and everything that could possibly happen occurs in some universe. Death does not exist in any real sense in these scenarios. All possible universes exist simultaneously, regardless of what happens in any of them. Although individual bodies are destined to self-destruct, the alive feeling—the ‘Who am I?’- is just a 20-watt fountain of energy operating in the brain. But this energy doesn’t go away at death. One of the surest axioms of science is that energy never dies; it can neither be created nor destroyed. But does this energy transcend from one world to the other?”
